ATLANTA – Senior Allie Niekamp and freshman Asia Stawicka have been named to the 2008 ACC Volleyball All-Academic Team, the Atlantic Coast Conference office announced this week.
“What a great accomplishment for Asia and Allie,” head coach Tonya Johnson said. “It is certainly a tribute to all of their hard work in the classroom. Academics and athletics is certainly a balancing act and they both seem to do it very well. I’m very proud of them, and hopefully we will see more Georgia Tech volleyball players on this list in the future.”
The duo both achieved a 3.0 grade point average for the fall semester, while Niekamp has maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA during her academic career.
Niekamp finished her career ranked in the top five in school history for assists, assists per game and service aces per game. She has been named to the ACC Volleyball All-Academic Team each of the last three years, as well as the ACC Honor Roll each of her first three seasons on the Flats.
Stawicka spent much of the season ranked among the league leaders in hitting percentage before being sidelined with an elbow injury the last 10 matches. The Warsaw native is the only Yellow Jacket freshman to be named to the ACC Volleyball All-Academic Team in school history.
