Schedule of Events

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams will host the Yellow Jacket Invitational at the George C. Griffin Track this weekend on the Georgia Tech campus. Competition begins Friday at 6 p.m. with the hammer throw.

The Yellow Jackets welcome a strong field to Atlanta this weekend, including rival Georgia (who will be competing at the Griffin Track for the second straight week) and ACC foes Clemson and Virginia Tech. Tech also welcomes Auburn, Chattanooga, UConn (women’s team), Georgia State, Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State.

“The Yellow Jacket Invitational is shaping up to be an outstanding meet,” women’s head coach Alan Drosky said. “We’re excited about the teams coming in and look forward to some great competition. The weather looks like it is cooperating and we should have a fantastic afternoon of track & field.”

“The Yellow Jacket Invitational has been an outstanding meet for several years,” men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale said. “We have invited some outstanding track programs to take part. This will be a very competitive meet and a great opportunity for the members of our team.”

Georgia Tech comes into this weekend off a competitive dual with Georgia last Saturday, in which the women’s team battled the Bulldogs to a 96-96 tie, while the men’s squad lost 123-63. The event was the first outdoor meet of the season for both schools.

On the women’s side, Tech had several athletes capture two events to lead the way. Sophomore Jhanelle McLeod won the triple jump with a career-best mark of 40′ 6″ and then earned a victory in the long jump with a 18′ 2″ effort. Sophomore Bailey Wagner was Tech’s other two-time winner on the afternoon, as she dominated the competition in the shot put with a mark of 46′ 7″ and the discus with a 154′ 10″ mark.

“The women opened up last week with some excellent performances and we are looking to keep the momentum building each week,” said Drosky.

For the men, senior Steve Marcelle won both the shot put and the discus in his first action of the outdoor season at the GT-UGA Dual. The Green Bay, Wisc. Native posted a 59′ 8″ effort in the shot put to capture the top spot and had a mark of 178′ 1″ in the discus to take top honors.

Fans are reminded that live results will be available on Friday evening and all day on Saturday at www.deltatiming.com. A recap and final results will also be available at RamblinWreck.com once action wraps up on Friday and Saturday.
