April 19, 2008

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Top-ranked Ani Mijacika came back after dropping her first set to pull out a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over No. 5 Kristi Miller to clinch match point as Clemson (14-9) stopped Georgia Tech’s ACC Women’s Tennis Championship run Saturday at Sanlando Park.

Mijacika teamed with Carol Salge to stop Tech’s Miller and Sasha Krupina, 8-5, before Ina Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win over Tech’s Christy Striplin and Kirsten Flower at the third doubles spot.

Fourth-ranked Amanda McDowell tied the match at 1-1 when she stopped Estefania Balda, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 2 singles spot, but the Tigers received straight-set wins from Ina Hadziselimovic and Laurianne Henry to re-gain the lead at 3-1.

Mijacika then battled back to record her three-set win over Miller to avoid dropping three-set matches to the Yellow Jacket senior for the second time this season.

NCAA Selections will be announced April 29, 2008.
