Top-Ranked Kristi Miller Advances at NCAA Singles Championships

PALO ALTO, Calif. – With a three-set victory in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Singles Championships, two-time All-American Kristi Miller has advanced to the Round of 32 for the second-straight season and will face Duke’s Jackie Carleton at 12 noon PT Thursday at the Taube Tennis Complex on the campus of Stanford University.

Miller, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, won her first set against Pepperdine’s Bianca Dulgheru, 6-2, but dropped the second by a 3-6 score before coming back with a 6-3 win in the third set to advance. With the win, the sophomore improves to 39-6 on the season in singles play. She set the Georgia Tech single-season record with 42 singles victories in 2005

Senior Lyndsay Shosho made her second appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships when she replaced Stanford’s Anne Yelsey in the bracket late Thursday afternoon. The East Amherst, NY native was unable to pull out a victory however, falling to Kentucky’s Kim Coventry, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in her first round match.

Miller and Shosho will team together in the NCAA Doubles Championships, which is scheduled to begin Thursday afternoon. The Yellow Jacket duo will square off against Pepperdine’s Dulgheru and Eva Dickes at 4 p.m. PT
