Three Tech Players Named to Cape Cod All-Star Team; Two Players Continue Summer with Team USA

ATLANTA (July 18) — Three members of Georgia Tech’s 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference championship team have been named to the All-Star team of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, while two other Yellow Jackets are spending the summer with the United States National Team.

Catcher Tyler Parker (Marietta, Ga. / Lassiter HS), a rising sophomore was named a starter in the Cape Cod All-Star game as a member of the Wareham Gatemen. Parker ranks fifth in the league with a .323 batting average and third in league with 21 runs scored. The backstop has one home run and 12 RBI in first half of a league that features wood bats and is generally dominated by pitchers.

Outfielder Brad Stockton (Marietta, Ga. / Lassiter HS) was named a reserve to the all-star game as a member of the Orleans Cardinals. A rising senior, Stockton ranks seventh in league with a .315 batting average.

Catcher Bryan Prince (Ft. Oglethorpe / Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe HS) was also tabbed as a reserve to the game. A rising senior, Prince is playing with Orleans Cardinals and is batting .250 with two home runs and eight RBI.

Rising junior Mark Teixeira (Severna Park, Md. / Mt. St. Joseph’s HS) is the starting third baseman and third place batter on the national team. The switch hitter is batting a robust .381, and he hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the 15th inning to give Team USA a 4-2 win over Taiwan on July 14.

Richard Lewis (Marietta, Ga. / Pope HS), who will also be a junior in the fall, is currently batting second for the national team while playing both second base and the outfield. He is hitting .278 and tied for team lead with 10 runs scored.

Team USA is comprised of 22 top college players that are touring the United States and Europe during the summer while playing a series of international games.
