Thorne Hopes to Jump-Start Men's Tennis

ATLANTA (Jan. 11) – Looking to get an early jump to the dual match season, Georgia Tech’s men’s tennis team hosts Mercer in a 1 p.m. match Saturday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in the Yellow Jackets’ season opener.

“We probably are playing a match earlier than most teams,” said Tech head coach Kenny Thorne. “This is a good chance for us to jump into competition right away and play some matches before we go to the ACC Indoor Championships next weekend.

“Hopefully this match motivated our guys to work hard over the break, so we will find out if they did.”

Thorne said he is encouraged by what he has seen in early Tech practices.

“Jason Jeong (Jr./Woodstock, Ill.) has come back strong and has been hitting the ball well,” Thorne said. “Sergio Aguiree (Jr./Atlanta, Ga.) has also come back strong and is match tough. We’re also looking for big things out of Roger Anderson (Fr./Pietermitzburg,South Africa).”
