Third-Team All-America Latest Honor for Mason

Dec. 16, 2014

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior offensive guard Shaquille Mason was named to the 2014 All-America Third Team by the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Mason was one of 14 ACC players named to one of the three AP All-America Teams – six first-team, three second-team, and five third-team.

The latest honor comes five days after Mason was named a first-team All-American by USA TODAY, becoming Tech’s first first-team All-American since defensive end Derrick Morgan in 2009.

Later on Tuesday, Mason was named second-team All-American by Sports Illustrated.

Mason, a 2013 first-team All-ACC selection, was selected second-team All-ACC by both ACSMA and the league’s head coaches in 2014. He was also an All-ACC selection by ESPN. The Columbia, Tenn., native has been named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week three times this season. Tech’s highest-graded offensive lineman in every game this season, he has made 37 consecutive starts – the longest streak by any current Yellow Jackets.

No. 12 Georgia Tech faces No. 7 Mississippi State (10-2) in the 2014 Capital One Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve in Miami. The game kicks at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN at Sun Life Stadium.
