I wanted to reach out with a brief holiday edition of The Good Word in order to wish all of you in the Georgia Tech family a happy, safe and enjoyable week ahead, and a Happy 2012. Here’s a little holiday greeting I wanted to pass along to keep you in the spirit.
It’s very quiet around campus this week, especially after the football team had its last on-campus practice Tuesday morning. The kids scattered for home and will meet again for our departure to El Paso, Texas, on the morning of the 26th.
Last night our women’s basketball team finished up a trip to the Bahamas with a 67 – 61 victory over Central Arkansas. Only Coach Brian Gregory’s basketball team remains here at Tech as they wrap up pre-holiday action with an in-state game vs. Mercer tonight at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Game time is 7 p.m. and tickets are $10 at the door.
Both our men’s a women’s basketball teams are enjoying favorable seasons to date and, after the brief Christmas break, will be set for some exciting action heading into the New Year. Make a calendar note that Coach MaChelle Joseph’s women’s team plays North Carolina A&T in Gwinnett on December 29, at 2 p.m., and the men host Alabama at Philips Arena on January 3 at 9 p.m.
I want to thank our great fans who supported our ticket sales effort for the upcoming Hyundai Sun Bowl. We sold more than 2,000 tickets for fans that will be in El Paso to cheer on the team and another 2,000 or so were purchased as a donation for the troops at Fort Bliss, just outside of El Paso. Next Wednesday, December 28, our team will visit Fort Bliss and spend a good part of the day with the troops. It’s our intention to deliver these donated tickets personally with a booklet that lists the names of every Georgia Tech fan that made a donation. I have no doubt this delivery will be greeted with great excitement by the troops, many of whom are either heading out or returning from deployment around the world. In addition, we’ll deliver hundreds of white and gold t-shirts and shakers to encourage support of the Jackets on game day.
I know those of you who can’t make the trip to west Texas will want to catch the game vs. Utah on CBS beginning at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, December 31. Our staff has put together this outstanding Sun Bowl Fan Guide, which should assist you in getting set for the game. Also be sure to access our Bowl Central feature on www.ramblinwreck.com, which is also packed with great information about the Georgia Tech-Utah matchup.

Student-Athletes Making Us Proud
The Michael Isenhour Toy Drive continues to serve kids and families in Atlanta. Watch this video of some of our student-athletes loading and delivering toys to the Atlanta Children’s Shelter. In last night’s women’s basketball win, senior center Sasha Goodlett scored her 1,000th career point, becoming the 25th Yellow Jacket with 1,000 career points. Sasha passed the milestone in impressive fashion, scoring a career-high 23 points and earned Bahamas Sunshine Shootout MVP honors in the process. Congratulations, Sasha.
Plenty Of Ticket Options Available For Philips Arena
Georgia Tech men’s basketball tickets make a great gift this holiday season. Tech fans can choose from two ticket packages involving the Yellow Jackets’ games at Philips Arena.
Ticket options available for purchase include the Holiday Half Pack, which includes any five games, excluding Duke, for $99. The Tradition at Work Pack allows Tech fans to pick their favorite three games from the schedule, including Duke, for $105.
Individual game tickets for all remaining games on the home schedule are on sale now and range in price from $25-$45. A discounted group rate is also available. All tickets are located in the lower level (100 and 200) of Philips Arena.
In advance of game day, tickets may be purchased online at www.ramblinwreck.com/tickets, by telephone (888-TECH-TIX, 888-832-4849 or 404-894-5447) or in person at the Georgia Tech ticket office during regular business hours.
