The 2005 ACC Championship: Getting Past the Semis

April 23, 2005

by Whitney McCray Well I woke up a little sluggish because I actually got a little more than eight hours of sleep (and let’s just face it, that is almost impossible at Tech). We later walked down to have that wonderful breakfast that the hotel provides us with. After we ate, we left to go warm up for our match against UNC. Before the match I was a little jittery because I wanted to do well to put us in a good position to get the doubles point. Maybe I was a little too jittery because I started off a little slow and missing shots that I normally make. Even though Kelly and I came up short in our doubles match 8-6, we still fought hard and did a lot of positive things. As a team we lost the doubles point. After doubles I knew I had to help to get the team going in singles with encouragement and a lot of loud cheering. Like the champs that we are we came back strong and defeated UNC 4-2. GO JACKETS!!!!!!

After playing we went to one of Shosho’s favorite restaurants, Panera Bread, for an enjoyable lunch. After lunch we returned to the hotel for a couple of hours. This is usually the time of day where I get to chill and possibly get a nap in or do some reading. We later went to dinner to Biaggi’s, which is one of the best Italian restaurants that I have ever been to. We all sat around the table telling jokes or spilling cherry pepsi’s all over each other (thanks a lot ALISON). If you weren’t into joking, you could always go to Nannie’s table where she was giving her insights on why you are having problems in life ( just kidding). After dinner, we came back to the hotel to discuss our strategy against Miami. Needless to say, I am pretty pumped for the match, they are definitely going to come after us. But we are tough.
