COLUMBUS, Ohio. – Senior outside hitter Teegan Van Gunst continues to put the finishing touches on a stellar career after being named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-America, the AVCA announced on Wednesday. It marks the second honorable mention AVCA All-America nod for Van Gunst.
“It’s another great honor for Teegan,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “She’s very deserving of this recognition after a stellar senior season and she’s among an elite group of players. It’s a great reflection of where our program is going.”
A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Van Gunst was named to the 2016 All-ACC first team and the AVCA All-Region team after finishing second in the ACC in kills/set (4.19) and points/set (4.72). She became one of nine Yellow Jackets all-time to eclipse 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
Van Gunst started all 32 matches this season and scored 20 double-doubles. She tallied 30 matches with 10-plus kills and 21 matches with 10-plus digs. Van Gunst was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 team and was selected CoSIDA Academic All-America with a 3.88 GPA in mechanical engineering.
She finished her career tied for 10th on Georgia Tech’s all-time career kills list (1,453) and 10th on the Georgia Tech single-season kills list (507). Van Gunst helped the Yellow Jackets tie for third in the ACC and to their best season in terms of overall (.750) and ACC (.750) winning percentages in 12 years – since 2004 (.794 overall, 1.000 ACC).
