THE FLATS – Junior outside hitter Teegan Van Gunst was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. The honor marks the first ACC weekly honor of her career.
A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Van Gunst had 51 kills in four matches, averaging almost four kills per set and 3.31 digs on the weekend in which Georgia Tech went an undefeated 4-0 at the UGA Challenge and against Auburn. The Yellow Jackets swept Georgia in Athens, blanking the Bulldogs for the first time since Sept. 9, 2011.
Van Gunst was named the MVP of the UGA Challenge after tallying 33 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. Against Mercer, she matched her career-best with four aces, and tallied two double-doubles on the weekend. A huge factor against Auburn, Van Gunst led all players with 18 kills with just two errors on 41 swings to hit .390. Georgia Tech (7-1) has won six matches in a row for the first time since winning seven straight in 2010.
Georgia Tech is back in action in Lincoln, Neb. for the Nebraska Ameritas Players Challenge on Sept 11-12 where Tech will play USF, UC Davis and No. 4 Nebraska.
