GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Sam Morgan and Freshman Vesna Stojanovska were named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimmer of the Week, announced by the league office this afternoon.
Morgan, a sophomore, helped lead the Yellow Jackets with third-place finishes in the 400-meter freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle at the Georgia Invitational. The Gainesville, Ga., native earned his first NCAA qualifying mark of the season in the 1650 freestyle with a “B” cut time of 15:31.18. Morgan swam the lead-off leg of Tech’s fourth-place 800-meter freestyle relay and also competed in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:06.52. The Yellow Jackets placed fourth at the Invitational, where they swam against the likes of nationally ranked Georgia (7) and Minnesota (9).
Stojanovska, a product of Skopje, Macedonia, recorded an NCAA “B” cut time in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:01.70 at the Georgia Invitational. The freshman finished fifth in the event and led off the 800-meter freestyle relay team that finished fifth with a time of 8:24.90. The Jackets swam against three nationally ranked opponents in No. 2 Georgia, No. 13 Penn State and No. 24 Minnesota.
Tech will return to action after the New Year on Jan. 10, against Alabama, in Tuscaloosa. The dual meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET.
