ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team, the 2007 National Champions, ACC Champions and ITA National Indoor Team Champions, are scheduled to be recognized for their achievements at halftime of this weekend’s Georgia Tech – Boston College football game. Fans are invited to remain in their seats at that time to see the players and coaches receive their national championship rings.
Just one week later, the 2007-08 campaign will kick off for the Yellow Jackets, when they host the Georgia Tech Invitational at the Bill Moore Tennis Center Sept. 21-23. Admission is free. Draws will be posted on www.ramblinwreck.com once they are available.
Five different members of the 2007-08 team appear in the preseason ITA Rankings that were released Friday. Kristi Miller, a five-time All-American, stands at No. 5 in the singles rankings entering her senior year at Georgia Tech and she teams with fellow senior Whitney McCray to form the nation’s third-ranked doubles tandem. The selections for the 2007 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships presented by Fila have also been released, and the Yellow Jackets are well-represented again this season. Kristi Miller bypassed both rounds of qualifying and will begin competition Oct. 4 in the Main Draw, while Kirsten Flower is third on the alternate list for the Main Draw.
