ATLANTA– – Georgia Tech’s 26th-ranked women’s tennis team fell to top-ranked Georgia, 5-2, Saturday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
Agata Ciorcoh, ranked 18th-nationally, led the Bulldogs (9-0) with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mysti Morris at No. 1 singles.
Tech (6-2), which had its six-match winning streak halted, got singles victories from Jaime Wong at the No. 2 flight and Catherine Gunn, who ran her individual singles record to 8-0 in dual matches. Gunn knocked off 36th-ranked Anne Ngyuen, 7-6 (4), 7-5 at No. 3 singles, while Wong defeated 23rd-ranked Mariel Verban, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 3-0 retired.
In doubles, Tech’s No. 1 team of Mysti Morris and Sekita Grant upset the 20th-ranked duo of Ciorcoh and Lori Grey, 8-5, but Georgia claimed the doubles point with wins from Hojnik and Verban at No. 2 and Smith and Nguyen at No. 3.
Tech hosts Auburn Sunday at 12 noon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
