CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Jan. 22) – Georgia Tech had four singles players and two doubles teams win their opening round matches before falling in the second round Saturday at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Women’s Tennis Championships hosted by the University of North Carolina.
Tech’s Mysti Morris, Charlotte Pernet, Sabrina Pardo and Bobbi Guthrie all won their opening round singles matches, and the doubles tandems of Guthrie and Pernet, and Pardo and Laura Ozolins also posted victories.
Pernet and Pardo both won in straight sets in the first round. Pernet topped NC State’s Landis Strader, 6-0, 6-0, and Pardo defeated Kristin Keoning of North Carolina, 6-2, 6-1.
Morris and Guthrie both rallied from one set deficits to claim their opening round wins. Morris downed Jessica Zaganczyk of North Carolina, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5, and Guthrie topped Anna Savitskoya of Clemson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles, Guthrie and Pernet won 9-7 over Myra Bowana and Brie Glover of NC State, and Ozolins and Pardo topped Kristin Nichols and Landis Strader of NC State, 8-1.
The ACC Indoor Championships continue Sunday.
