ATLANTA – Maya Johansson, Noelle Hickey and Christy Striplin all picked up singles wins on opening day at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic, which is being contested at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
Hickey posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Stanford’s Isa Marie Perez in her first round match, but fell to USC’s Lindsey Nelson in the round of 16, 6-2, 6-2. Johansson and Striplin both received byes in the first round but recorded victories in their afternoon matches to advance to the quarterfinals, which will commence Saturday Monday at 10 a.m. PT
Striplin notched a 6-4, 6-2 win against USC’s Amanda Fink and Johansson posted a hard-fought 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-0 victory over Eleyla Entekhabi of Southern Cal.
Both Tech doubles teams received byes in the first round and will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.
