Tech Women Place 22nd at Great American Invitational; Men's Team Finishes 24th

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Highlighted by a top-25 finish by senior Katie Griffin, the Georgia Tech women’s cross country team placed 22nd at the ultra-competitive Great American Invitational at the Ballantyne Golf Resort Course. Tech’s men’s squad finished 25th.

Clocking a time of 19:11.5, Griffin finished 25th in the seeded women’s five-kilometer race. Freshman Carly Matthews was Tech’s second women’s finisher, placing 110th in 20:37.4. Junior Neta Ezer (132nd), junior Amanda Gilley (149th) and freshman Carla Uribe (161st) also figured in the scoring for the Jackets.

Freshman Rob Kuhn was Tech’s top men’s finisher for the second time this season. He ran an 8K time of 28:31.0 to finish 97th. Senior Joe Poliseo was the Jackets second finisher (112th) in his first action of the season. Sophomore Adam Jones (147th), junior Daniel Moss (151st) and freshman Mark Luffel rounded out the Jackets’ scoring.

Fifth-ranked Northern Arizona won the men’s title, led by individual winner Henrik Ahnstrom (26:31.1). No. 1 BYU claimed the women’s crown, while North Carolina’s Shalene Flanagan (17:48.1) placed first.

Tech returns to action at the Georgia Intercollegiate Championships on October 5.
