ATLANTA – Lindsey Stauss earned the Jackets’ only point as North Carolina (19-7, 4-4 ACC) defeated Georgia Tech (11-10, 4-4), 4-1, in the opening round of the ACC Championships. The tournament is being held at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, NC.
The Jackets opened play by dropping doubles matches at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline teamed together to defeat Kelly Anderson and Sekita Grant, 8-2, in the top slot before Elina Bairos and Kendrick Bunn captured the point for the Tar Heels with an 8-0 win over Lyndsay Shosho and Maria Nieto.
Stauss, playing in her first ACC Championships, earned a 6-2 win in the first set over Caitlin Collins in the No. 3 singles position before earning a 7-5 victory in the second and final set for Tech’s only point in the match.
Mojzis defeated Shosho, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Kendall Cline downed Tech’s Alison Silverio, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot, and Nieto lost to UNC’s Tanja Markovic, 6-3, 7-6(4) to round out the scoring.
