SAN DIEGO – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team won 11 of 12 singles matches and swept both doubles matches on day one of the SDSU Fall Tennis Classic, which is being held at the Aztec Tennis Center on the campus of San Diego State University. The tournament began Friday morning and runs through Sunday afternoon.

The Georgia Tech duos of Kelly Anderson and Whitney McCray, along with Lyndsay Shosho and Alison Silverio, got the Yellow Jackets rolling by winning their doubles matches during the morning session. In Red Draw singles play, Anderson and Silverio each advanced to Saturday’s semifinals by winning three matches between the two of them. Silverio downed New Mexico’s Nora Quintal, 6-3, 6-3, before defeating Rice’s Christine Dao by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Anderson advanced to her quarterfinal match against San Diego’s Lauren Perl via bye, and then defeated the Toreros’ standout, 6-2, 6-3.

McCray and Christy Striplin, playing in the Black Draw for singles, both won two matches to advance to Saturday’s semifinals. McCray came back after dropping her first set to Rice’s Tiffany Lee, 1-6, to win the next two in tiebreakers for a 1-6, 7-6 (3), 10-7 win in the first round before downing New Mexico’s Lucy Scott, 6-4, 6-3.
