Tech Women Advance to Final Day of Play at ITA South Regionals

Oct. 15, 2005

ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomore Kristi Miller will play for the singles title Sunday morning and then team with senior Lyndsay Shosho to compete in the doubles semifinals immediately following at the Wilson/ITA South Region Championships, which is being held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Eighth-ranked Miller, the No. 3 singles seed, defeated Shosho, 6-2, 7-6 (1), in quarterfinal singles action Saturday morning and then advanced to Sunday’s final with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Alabama’s 36th-ranked Ashley Bentley, the No. 6 seed, in the semifinal. Bentley advanced to the semifinal match against Miller with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over Tech’s Tarryn Rudman, the No. 15 seed, in the quarterfinals.

Miller will play Florida’s 34th-ranked Diana Srebrovic, the No. 5 singles seed in the tournament, at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Immediately following the singles championship, Miller and Shosho, the sixth-seeded doubles team in the tournament, will play USF’s duo of Gabriela Duch and Neyssa Etienne, the No. 2 seed, in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to play the winner of the other semifinal, between top-seeded Shadisha Robinson and Caroline Basu of Georgia and sixth-seeded Bentley and Robin Stephenson of Alabama.

Miller and Shosho defeated Alabama’s other doubles team of Mari Muller and Shelley Godwin, 8-2, on Saturday afternoon to advance to Sunday’s semifinal.

Because she is a finalist in the singles championship, Miller automatically earns a bid to the ITA National Indoor Tournament, which will be held November 2-5.
