THE FLATS – In the teams’ first meeting since 1996, the Georgia Tech volleyball team (7-1) won its sixth-straight match, 3-1, Sunday afternoon against the Auburn Tigers (4-2) in front of a packed O’Keefe Gym. The Yellow Jackets have won six in a row for the first time since winning seven straight in 2010.
How it Happened
The Jackets used a five-point rally to take an 8-5 lead in game one and stayed in control to win 25-16. Georgia Tech kept its foot on the gas pedal throughout set two, never trailing and winning 25-19.
Auburn was fast out of the gate in game three. The Tigers got ahead early 9-4 and never looked back to win 25-19.
Set four was a back-and-forth battle, but at 21-20 with Tech in the lead the Yellow Jackets built momentum to go on a 4-1 run, capturing the set and match 25-21.

“We knew we were playing a good team on the other side and that they were going to make adjustments,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “I think that we lost our focus a little bit [in the third set] and didn’t use our middles as effectively. In the fourth game, we got the starting lineup where we wanted it for the set and we were able to execute. I thought we played well defensively against them.
“Wimberly [Wilson] plays all out. She had some great defensive plays that got momentum going for us. It was great to see her step up and play the role we needed her to play. She did exactly what we need, and was a big reason why we were able to execute so well in the fourth game.”
