CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team finished with five singles and five doubles wins on the second day of the UNC Invitational at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
“It was just another good day for our team,” head coach Bryan Shelton. “We want to continue to play well tomorrow and finish on a high note in our last day of competition of the fall. We plan on bringing our Sunday best.”
The Yellow Jackets opened the day with three doubles matches against members of UNC-Greensboro. Senior Christy Striplin and sophomore Noelle Hickey earned an 8-4 win over Alejandra Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley. Sophomore Sasha Kurpina and freshman Viet Ha Ngo finished off Valerie Behr and Lucy Dougherty, 8-3. In the third flight, freshmen Lynn Blau and Hillary Davis defeated Courtney Akel and Jessica Eblen, 8-1.
In the second set of doubles, Georgia Tech faced members of North Carolina. Striplin and Hickey beat Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston, 8-5, in the top flight and in the third flight, Blau and Davis defeated Linzee Mabrey and Jocelyn Ffriend, 8-3.
In singles, Tech competing against members of NC State’s team, got wins from Striplin in the top flight, Ngo in the third flight and the sixth flight’s Blau. Krupina faced Kristina Koprcina of Marshall in the fifth flight and won 6-3, 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets will close out its fall Sunday in the final day of competition at the UNC Invitational.
