Jacket Volleyball Hits Road for Match Against NC State
After playing four conference matches at home and posting a 3-1 record, the Georgia Tech volleyball team (7-3 overall) travels to Raleigh, NC, for its first Atlantic Coast Conference road match against NC State (5-6, 1-3 ACC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets enter Tuesday’s match on a three match win-streak, having defeated Clemson, Wake Forest, and Florida State in the last week. But, those matches have been on the campus of Georgia Tech, a place where the Jackets have traditionally been hard to defeat.
“We are looking forward to our first ACC road match,” said head coach Shelton Collier. “I feel its very important for us to play really well in this match to establish that we can win at home and away from O’Keefe Gym.”
Tech defeated the Wolfpack in both of their meetings last season, including a 3-1 victory in Raleigh, NC, and lead the all-time series with NC State, 18-11. But, after going 1-15 last year in ACC play, first year head coach Mary Byrne has already won her first conference match, a 3-1 victory over Maryland, 30-22, 20-23, 19-30, 30-27.
“NC State has a new coach this year and I am sure that it has brought a new attitude to the program,” said Collier. “NC State has always been tough to handle, and with a new coach, I’m sure their expectations are even higher this season.”
“Our team is heading to Raleigh with the attitude that we expect to win this match and I like that confidence,” said Collier. “If we play the way we are capable of playing, and have played this past week, then I like our chances in this match.”
