ATLANTA – After sweeping ACC Outdoor Performer of the Week honors, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track teams will host the Yellow Jacket Invitational at the Georgia C. Griffin Track Facility this weekend, March 25 and 26. The meet will kick off with the weight throw and 5,000 meter run on Friday night beginning at 6 p.m.

The Yellow Jacket Invitational will feature teams from six different states as the men’s and women’s teams from Chattanooga, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee State, South Florida and Virginia Tech come to town. The Connecticut women’s squad will be in attendance as well as some individuals from the Air Force Academy.

The only two events to take place on Friday are the hammer and 5000 meter run as previously mentioned. The hammer throw will begin at 6 p.m. while the 5k will start at 9 p.m. Both will start with the women competitors, as men will follow.

On Saturday, the day will begin with the shot put and javelin at 10:30 a.m. Women will begin, men to follow. The first track event of the day, the 4×100 meter relay, will kick off at 12:30 p.m. followed by the 1,500 meter run. Men’s pole vault (followed by women’s) and the long jump will start at 1 p.m. and while that is going on, the 100m/110m hurdles will take place, followed by the 400 meter dash.

At 2 p.m. both the discus and 100 meter dash will sound off. The 800 meter run to follow. The high jump, women first, then men, will start at 2:30 p.m. and at 3 p.m. the final field event of the day, the triple jump will occur.

The track events to round out the day go as follows:
2:55 p.m. – 400 meter hurdles
3:20 p.m. – 200 meter dash
4:00 p.m. – 3,000 meter steeplechase
4:30 p.m. – 4×400 meter relay.

The Jackets saw much success at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational, setting some of the top times/scores in the country. Senior Leslie Njoku and sophomore Shawn Roberts were honored for their success by the Atlantic Coast Conference in being named the Outdoor Performers of the Week.

Njoku excelled in both the 400 meter hurdles and the 4×100 meter relay. Njoku was one of the first women in the country to finish under 1:00 in the 400 hurdles registering the fourth best time in the U.S. with a 58.39 second finish. She anchored the 4×100 meter relay that took first and notched the 19th fastest time in the country with a finish of 45.75.

Roberts earned the second fastest time in the country in the 1500 meter run coming across in a personal best time of 3:47.62. He also anchored the 4×800 meter relay team to the third fastest time in the country while also running as a part of the 4×400 meter relay.

Joanna Wright and Aaron Unterberger excelled in the pole vault on the weekend. Both notched a first place finish while Wright’s height of 4.11 meters ranks fourth in the country.
