SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior setter Gabby Benda recorded her 1000th career assist as a Yellow Jacket on Sunday afternoon as Georgia Tech volleyball (7-10, 2-4 ACC) fell to Syracuse (13-6, 5-1 ACC), 3-0.
How it happened:
The Orange took the lead early in the first set at 5-4 and kept it. The Jackets kept it close, senior Gabriela Stavnetchei posted four kills, keeping Tech in the set but Syracuse put it away at 25-18.
The Jackets rebounded to start the second, taking the 8-4 advantage off back-to-back blocks and a service ace from Benda. The Orange fought back, coming within one at 13-12 but a solo block from sophomore Kodie Comby kept Tech in control. Syracuse tied the set at 15-15 but a kill from senior Sydney Wilson gave the Jackets back the lead. It stayed close from there, Syracuse tied the set once again at 18-18, causing Tech to take a timeout. The two teams traded points to a tie at 24-24 before Syracuse snuck ahead to take the second at 27-25 and the 2-0 lead.
The two teams came out trading points to a 6-6 tie until the Orange jumped ahead, forcing Tech to call a timeout at 8-6. Things continued to go the way of the Orange, leading by as much as seven and Syracuse pocketed the third at 25-19 to take the match.

Georgia Tech hits the road again next weekend when it travels to Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 13 and Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 15.
