ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team will host Georgia Southern for a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Glenn Field on Wednesday, March 3. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 6-2 mark last week and enter tomorrow’s games with an overall record of 15-3. The Jackets are receiving votes in both the NFCA/USA Today and ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Polls (Feb. 24).
The Yellow Jackets currently lead the Atlantic Coast Conference in pitching with a staff ERA of 0.89. Tech has allowed just 15 earned runs in 118 innings pitched. The Georgia Tech offense stands third, with a team batting average of .280.
The scheduled starters for the Yellow Jackets in the circle will be Jessica Sallinger and Erin Voeltz. Sallinger is 8-2 on the season, with an ERA of 0.57, second best in the ACC. Voeltz stands at 7-1, and ranks fourth in the league with a 1.27 ERA.
Senior shortstop Tara Knudsen tied the ACC and school record last Saturday, Feb. 28, with her 39th career home run versus DePaul. Knudsen currently leads the ACC in home runs (5), runs batted in (15) and total bases (39). She is leading the Tech squad with a .383 batting average.
The Rambling Wreck will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Hillenbrand Invitational, March 5-7. Tech will face UTEP, North Texas, No. 2 Arizona, Northern Iowa and Indiana in the round robin tournament.
