ATLANTA–The Georgia Tech football team will continue spring practice as scheduled this week without head coach Chan Gailey, who is resting comfortably at Piedmont Hospital following Monday’s angioplasty.
Assistant head coach Buddy Geis will run the team in Gailey’s absence and handle administrative duties, while coordinators Jon Tenuta and Patrick Nix will run the defense and offense, respectively.
Gailey, who is expected to remain hospitalized until later this week, made the decision to conduct practice as scheduled. The Yellow Jackets, who have already held two spring sessions, will practice today, Thursday, Friday and Saturday before taking off next week for spring break. Practice then resumes March 29 and continues through April 16.
Tech sought and received permission from the NCAA to postpone this week’s practices and reschedule them for the week of April 18, but Gailey elected not to exercise that option.
Today’s practice, Tech’s first workout in pads, is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Rose Bowl Field.
