Feb. 11, 2005

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech men’s tennis, ranked No. 35 the latest ITA poll, will try to remain perfect on the season at No. 53 Middle Tennessee State. The match is set for noon on Saturday, February 12 at the Racquet Club Indoor Tennis Facility.

Tech is currently 3-0, defeating Princeton, Wofford and Georgia Southern all by a score of 7-0. The Jackets have swept all 18 singles matches and faltered only once in nine doubles matches.

Sophomore Jose Luis Muguruza and freshmen Jordan Delass and Sukhwa Young are all 3-0 on the season, with freshman David North, sophomore Zachary Rath and junior Marko Rajevac all posting 2-0 records.

Muguruza is currently the only player ranked for the Jackets. The Wesley Chapel, Fla. native is currently ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA rankings.

Middle Tennessee State is currently No. 53 in the rankings with a 4-1 record. No. 72 Andreas Siljestrom is the only singles player ranked for MTSU, while a pair of doubles teams, Brandon Allan/Kai Schledom (29th) and Andreas Siljestrom/Marco Born (58th), are ranked.

The Blue Raiders have faced two ranked teams, beating No. 68 Indiana, 4-3, and falling to No. 48 Louisville, 2-4.

“Middle Tennessee State has had a good team year in and year out,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “It will be a good challenge for our team. They are ranked and we are playing them indoors which is always tough. Our guys are as ready as they can be. They are excited about playing a ranked team and I think I will be a good test for us.”
