Tech Swimming & Diving Inks Two In Early Signing Period

Dec. 3, 2004

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach Seth Baron announced the signing of Caroline Jones and Mauricio Sousa on Friday morning.

“We are very pleased to have Caroline and Mauricio joining our program next fall,” said head coach Seth Baron. “They will both have a positive impact to the future of our program.”

Jones, a native of St. Simons Island, Ga., is a senior at Glynn Academy High School. She led off her high school 400 freestyle relay team that tallied a second-place finish at the Georgia State High School 5A Swimming Championships last year. Jones also led off the 200 medley relay team that finished eighth at the state meet. She has personal-best times of 59.48 (100 backstroke), 2:04.99 (200 back), 1:54.19 (200 freestyle) and 5:04.25 (500 free).

“Caroline is another in-state swimmer that we are proud to have stay in Georgia,” said Baron. “She will be a valued asset to our program and we look forward to advancing her swimming career at Georgia Tech.”

Sousa is currently a senior at James Madison Memorial High School. The Madison, Wis., native swam a personal-best time of 1:53.41 in the 200 individual medley to finish second at the Wisconsin state swim meet in 2004. Sousa also led off the 200 medley relay team that finished second at the state meet as Madison Memorial finished second in Division I. He holds personal-best marks of 21.41 and 47.34 in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, respectively.

“Mauricio will continue to add depth to our sprint free events and give us a much needed boost in the 200 IM,” said Baron. “He will be a strong addition to our men’s program.”
