March 14, 2003

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will put its six-match win streak on the line this weekend when it returns to Atlantic Coast Conference play at Virginia and Maryland.

The Yellow Jackets (8-2, 1-0 ACC) will face the Cavaliers (12-2, 0-0 ACC) on Saturday at noon and travel to square off with the Terrapins (7-3, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Senior Roger Anderson and junior Scott Schnugg will lead Tech in both singles and doubles competition, as the duo has manned the top of the lineup in both areas this year. Schnugg is 9-1 in dual matches this spring and leads the team with 20 overall singles wins on the year. Anderson is second on the team with 18 singles wins and holds a 6-3 mark in dual matches.

Since pairing up to form the Jackets’ No. 1 doubles team, Schnugg and Anderson hold a perfect 4-0 record and are 5-1 as a team overall on the season.

Tech has also received strong performances in the middle of the lineup from juniors Joao Menano, West Nott and Jason Pieters. Menano is third on the team with his 7-3 dual-match record, while Nott is 8-2 in the spring and 14-8 overall. The third member of the group, Pieters, is 5-2 in the spring and has won three of his last four matches.

Following the trip to the northern reaches of the ACC, the Jackets will return home to begin a six-match homestand that will get under way on March 21, when Indiana visits the Bill Moore Tennis Center at 2 p.m. A full recap of both Tech matches this weekend will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
