April 9, 2003

CLEMSON, S.C. – Despite earning a win in doubles action, the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team dropped all six singles matches and fell by a 6-1 score to Clemson on Wednesday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C.

The Yellow Jackets (12-7, 3-4 ACC) looked to have early control in the match against the Tigers (20-9, 4-2 ACC) as they won a pair of doubles matches to begin the day. Tech’s first doubles win of the day came at the No.1 position, as the Jackets’ 20th-ranked team of Scott Schnugg and Roger Anderson defeated Clemson’s tandem of Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins by an 8-4 score. Georgia Tech’s No. 3 doubles team of Trevor McLeod and West Nott clinched the point for the Yellow Jackets as they won their match with Sander Koning and Brett Twente by a 9-7 count.

In the singles portion of the match, Tech had a number of chances to get a victory, as four of the matches went to a third set, with Anderson, Schnugg, West Nott and Marko Rajevac all losing in three sets. Anderson and Schnugg both won the first sets of their matches, but were unable to hang on.

The Yellow Jackets will conclude the regular season this weekend when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to face Florida State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
