ATLANTA — Despite getting singles wins from Roger Anderson, Scott Schnugg and West Nott, the 14th-ranked Georgia Tech men’s tennis dropped a 4-3 decision to Wake Forest in a match that took nearly six hours to complete on Sunday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
The difference in the match was the decided early on, as the Yellow Jackets (11-5, 3-3 ACC) dropped the doubles point for the second-straight time against the Demon Deacons (9-6, 2-3 ACC). Tech’s lone doubles win came at the No. 3 spot, as the team of Trevor McLeod and West Nott were 8-5 winners over Brian Murphy and David Bere.
The Jackets started singles play in strong fashion, as both Anderson and Schnugg were winners at Nos. 1 and 2 respectively. Schnugg was Tech’s first singles winner of the day as he rallied to defeat David Bere in three sets. Schnugg lost the first set by a 6-0 score, but then took the next two by matching scores of 6-2 and 6-2. After Wake’s Trent Brendon picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over the Jackets’ Joao Menano at No. 3 singles, Anderson evened the match at 2-2 with his win over Derrick Spice at No. 1 singles. Anderson dropped the first set by a 6-3 count, but then won a pair of tight sets and the match by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 (3).
