ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (9-3, 1-2 ACC) will travel to No. 3 Georgia (13-1, 4-0 SEC) Wednesday for a 1:00 p.m. match-up at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Live stats for Wednesday’s match will be available at www.RamblinWreck.com, Georgia Tech’s official athletic website.
“We are always excited about the UGA match and yes, they are the one opponent that every Georgia Tech team wants to beat the most,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “Our expectation every time we step on the court this season is to win. Our focus is going to be on ourselves and improving from our last match and that will give us the best opportunity to be successful. We look forward to the fight.”
This will mark the 88th meeting between the two in-state rivals with the Bulldogs leading the series, 61-26. Last season, Georgia defeated the Yellow Jackets, 7-0, at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Jackets have not defeated the Bulldogs since a squad led by Thorne earned a 5-4 road win on April 5, 1988.
The Jackets are coming off hard fought, 5-2, loss to Miami last Friday at home. Five of the six singles matches went to three-sets and the deciding doubles match between Guillermo Gomez and David North and No. 39 David Rosenfeld and Vivek Subramanian needed a 14-12 tie-breaker before Miami earned the point.
Tech returns home Friday for a match-up with Arizona State beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
