ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams continue their season’s this Saturday, Nov. 10 at the 2007 South Region Championships on the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
The men’s 10K race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K race at 11 a.m.
“After a disappointing showing at the Atlantic Coast Conference meet, both teams are looking forward to an opportunity at little redemption,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “We didn’t accomplish what we wanted to in Charlottesville, but we are excited about the opportunity to do so in Gainesville.”
The women’s team, ranked seventh in the South Region, finished 11th at the ACC meet. Seniors Elena Linn, Nisha Kurian and Jenny Sims, the Jackets top-three finishers all season, will try and lead the team to a top-two spot at the regional meet and into the NCAA Championships. Kurian finished 25th overall at last season’s regional to earn All-South Region honors.
“The women have been ranked fifth in the South Region for much of the season, but dropped a bit after the conference meet,” Drosky said. “I still think we are the one of the five best teams but we have got to have a much better performance this weekend. Up front we need to run like we did earlier in the season. At number four and five, we have got to have much better races. We need to be a little more aggressive in the beginning, and much tougher in the middle of the race.”
The men’s squad, ranked 12th in the region, will try and improve on the team’s 11th-place finish at the ACC meet. Senior David Herren and Cristan Duvall have led the team all season and will try and catapult the Tech men into a top finish at the regional.
“The men have been ranked just outside the top ten in the South Region all season long,” Drosky added. “With a great team effort we can get in the top ten in Gainesville. The men are solid, with good quality up front and some solid depth behind. It just has to come together on Saturday.”
Results for the South Region Championships will be available following the meet at RamblinWreck.com, Tech’s official athletic website.
