Tech Heads Out To Royal Cross Country Challenge

Oct. 14, 2010

ATLANTA – Meet Website

In their final race of the regular season, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Charlotte where they will compete in the Royal Cross Country Challenge on Friday, October 15. The women will kick things off this week with a 3:30 p.m. start time followed by the men’s race at 4:15 p.m.

“The Royal Cross Country Challenge is our last competition before the ACC meet so we’re looking for some good performances,” said head coach Alan Drosky. “From a training standpoint, we have been progressing well and we’re rounding into better form with each passing week. With a good course, solid competition, and some decent weather, we expect a lot of seasonal bests and hopefully a number of personal bests.”

Tech is coming off of a decent showing at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in a race that boasted over 300 runners on both the men’s and women’s sides. Patrick Barron was the first male runner across the line for Georgia Tech in 35th place (of 323) for the third-straight meet while Mary Kate DuBard came in a Tech-best 24th on the women’s side (of 303).

“On the men’s side,” continued Drosky, “Patrick and DJ give us a good presence up front, but we can’t have the huge gap after them that we had last time out. Our three, four, and five runners need to step up this week if we are going to reach our potential this season. They’re in great shape but they have got to get it done in the meets.”

“For the women, we see them making great progress in the workouts and feel they will see the results this weekend. Mary Kate is an outstanding front runner for us. Things have been going well for her in training so I think she will race very well. After her we have a solid group through number five or six that really needs a little bit of a breakthrough. This meet is a great opportunity for that to happen.”

There are 35 teams on both the men’s and women’s side competing in this event including the No. 15 nationally ranked men’s team and No. 3 nationally ranked women’s teams of ACC-foe Florida State (both No. 1 in the south region) and the No. 4 south regional ranked men’s squad from Georgia.

Flash Results, Inc. will be providing the results from each of the races.
