Tech Finishes Fourth; Second At Virginia Tech Invite

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country team finished fourth and second, respectively, at the Virginia Tech Invitational. The women’s team finished the 6K in second place with Katie Townsend leading the way, while the men ran an 8K to finish fourth led by Jeremy Greenwald.

Florida State won both the men’s and women’s races with 19 and 15 points, respectively, and taking the first seven spots in the 6K and the top three slots in the 8K. The Yellow Jacket women tallied 76 points and the men had 117 points.

Townsend finished first for the Tech women with a career-best time of 22:35.83 for 18th place of 85 total runners. Senior Mary Kate DuBard followed in 19th with a time of 22:42.15.

Freshman Kaylee Isaacs ran her first collegiate race and crossed the line in 22:50.46 (22nd). Fellow freshman Caroline Kissel turned in a 22:53.07 performance for 25th place.

Laura Serres had a career-best run with a time of 23:09.97 (34th).

Jeremy Greenwald led the men’s team as he finished 10th and shaved over a minute off his time from two weeks ago, going from 26:49.68 to 25:34.42.

Obiandu Igwe and Eric Powers placed 29th (25:52.98) and 30th (25:56.31), respectively, followed by Austen Gutierrez in 35th (25:59.22).

The team is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky. The women’s race begins at 9:30 a.m.
