THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (11-10, 2-5 ACC) started it weekend with a close matchup against No. 17 Florida State. Florida State escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Jackets.
The Jackets were unlucky in doubles play, losing two straight matches and granting Florida State with the doubles point.
Tech nearly made up for its losses in doubles with the performances in singles play. The highlight of singles play was another impressive upset from No. 34 Andres Martin. Martin split the first two sets with Florida State’s No. 6 Cornut-Chauvinc (6-3, 4-6), but was able to claim the victory with a 6-4 win in the third set.
Another big singles win came from No. 60 Marcus McDaniel, who rallied back from a 4-6 loss in the first set to defeat Florida State’s Pourroy 6-1, 6-2. The final singles victory of the day came from No. 85 Keshav Chopra. He battled No. 107 Rihane in two sets that went into tiebreak rounds, splitting them 6-7 [2-7], 7-6 [11-9]. Chopra came out victorious with a 12-10 win in the final set of the match.
