Tech Ends Tuesday Practice Working Overtime

Aug. 12, 2008

ATLANTA – With rain showers in the forecast, Georgia Tech practiced 90 minutes earlier than scheduled for a single session Tuesday at Rose Bowl Field. The Yellow Jackets concluded practice by working on situations it may face in an overtime game.

“Overtime is a good thing to work on because you never know when it’s going to happen,” head coach Paul Johnson said. “We don’t want to get into a situation without practicing it so we will work on it several times before we play.”

In the early periods of team drills, the offense worked mainly on short-yardage passing and goal-line offense. The Yellow Jacket defense worked on passing situations of its own, mainly on short-yard coverage.

The highlight from the overtime drill was freshman quarterback Jaybo Shaw’s 15-yard touchdown pass to true freshman Jonathan Lockhart.

Sophomore quarterback Josh Nesbitt returned the favor on his squad’s first play with a nice 25-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman A-back Roddy Jones. After the first team offense failed an attempted field goal on the ensuing drive, the second team won the game soon after as redshirt junior Mohamed Yahiaoui’s 30-yard field goal attempt sailed through the uprights.

Georgia Tech will alternate between two-a-day and single practices this week with Wednesday and Friday scheduled as the double days. The team’s second scrimmage will be Saturday morning at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
