ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech cross country teams will run in the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend and get an early-season look at the site of the 2003 ACC Championships. The meet will be held on the Wake Forest Cross Country Fields in Winston Salem, NC, on Saturday morning, with the men’s 8K beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the women’s 5K to follow at 10:15.
Other Division I schools slated to compete are Charlotte, Clemson, and host Wake Forest. The Wake Forest women are currently ranked No. 7 in the country in the Finishlynx National Poll.
Similar to last week’s UT-Chattanooga Opener, this race will give the Jackets a chance to give the younger competitors collegiate experience. Several of Tech’s top runners will not race on Saturday.
Veterans scheduled to compete for the men’s team include seniors Barton Crist, Jimmy DeYonker, and Dan Moss. Rob Kuhn will also be running for the Jackets after leading all Tech finishers last weekend at the UTC Opener.
Senior Jennifer Lentz and junior Jessica Vaughn, as well as sophomores Catherine Spoth and Carla Uribe will lead the women’s contingent. Freshman Kirby Cross returns for her second race of the year after leading the women’s team to a second place finish last weekend with her seventh-place showing in the women’s race.
