Tech Cross Country To Compete At Tennessee Invitational

Sept. 17, 2008

ATLANTA – After a two-week hiatus, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams head to Knoxville, Tenn., Friday, for the 2008 Tennessee Invitational.

The event hosted by the University of Tennessee, will start with the women’s 5K race at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s 8K at 6:15 p.m. Teams from Miami (Ohio), Tennessee-Chattanooga, Belmont and Bryan College are expected to participate.

The teams will be running on the same course that will serve as the host for the NCAA South Region Championships in November.

“The Tennessee Invitational offers a great opportunity for us to familiarize ourselves with the course that will be used for our NCAA South Regional in November,” Coach Drosky Said. “We’ll hold out most of our top runners as we prepare for next week’s Griak Invitational in Minneapolis. Two weeks back-to-back, both on challenging courses, is not wise at this point in the season.”

The Jackets last competed at the Tennessee Invitational in 2006, with the women finishing second and the men sixth.

A complete recap and full results will be available on RamblinWreck.com shortly following the conclusion of the event.
