Auburn, Ala. – The Georgia Tech cross country team competed in the Auburn Invitational Monday morning. Junior Rachel Heim paced the women’s team in the five-kilometer race, while sophomore Chris Clarke led the men in the eight-kilometer event.
The Tech women and men finished 14th and 15th respectively in their races. Samford took first place honors in the women’s event with Portland claiming top honors in the men’s race. Conference foe Florida State, currently ranked 18th, took fifth place accolades.
For Georgia Tech, Heim was the women’s top performer. Fellow junior Misty Dirksen and senior Jessica Vaughn finished second and third for the Jackets respectively. Rounding out the competitors for the Jackets were juniors Barbie Daymude, Carla Uribe, Catherine Spoth and Anna King, and sophomore Alice Koerner.
In the men’s eight-kilometer race, Clarke paced the Jackets, followed by freshman Kyle French and senior Chris dos Santos. Freshman Josh Cross and Clark Rivers rounded out the top-five for Tech, with Michael Sinagra and Masato Kan finishing out the Tech competitors.
The Yellow Jackets will compete in their second event of the week this Friday when Tech travels to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Chili Pepper Invitational.
