Tech Cross Country Competes at ACC Championships

Georgia Tech’s cross country team participated in the ACC Championships on Monday morning with the women finishing in 10th place while the men placed 12th.

The women once again competed against a very strong field as half of the ACC teams are currently ranked nationally. Duke, No. 1 in the latest FinishLynx Division I rankings, won the ACC title with six runners finishing in the top 10 in the women’s 6K race. No. 9 N.C. State placed second, followed by No. 12 Wake Forest (third), No. 14 Boston College (fourth), No. 25 North Carolina (fifth), and No. 19 Virginia (sixth). Shannon Rowbury of Duke won the individual crown with a time of 19:03.

In the men’s race, No. 18 Virginia finished first with 30 points, just ahead of No. 19 Florida State (38 pts). The Seminoles’ Andrew Lemoncello claimed the individual title in the 8K race with a time of 23:43.

The Jackets were led by sophomores Nisha Kurian and Nazar Trilisky, who both finished as the top Tech runners for the fourth time this season. Kurian placed 31st for the women with a time of 20:33 while Trilisky finished 57th (25:32) in the men’s race. Other Jackets competing for the women were sophomore Elena Linn (21:10), junior Mary Chind (21:29), freshman Katina Zuganelis (22:06), seniors Misty Dirksen (22:46) and Catherine Spoth (22:53), and sophomore Emily Yandle (23:05). Finishing behind Trilisky for the men were senior Rob Kuhn (25:55), freshman Will Bonn (26:14), junior David Herren (26:40), freshmen Matt Kinsel (26:47), Greg Johnson (27:22), Casey Gramling (27:33), and James Taylor (27:53.

Georgia Tech will be back in action on Nov. 12 as they will compete in the NCAA South Region Championships in Gainesville, Fla.
