Tech Concludes Second Day of Competition at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis recorded four singles victories on the second day of the June Stewart Invitational at Vanderbilt.

The Yellow Jackets faced Vanderbilt in doubles and Indiana in singles this afternoon.

Sophomores Megan Kurey and Natasha Prokhnevska and freshman Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer each recorded their second singles win of the tournament. Kurey defeated Sophie Garre, 6-1, in both sets. Against Alecia Kauss, Prokhnevska recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win. Anton-Ohlmeyer dropped Shannon Murdey, 6-4, 6-4 in her match.

Sophomore Kendal Woodard, who is ranked #67 in the preseason poll, notched a victory against Paula Gutierrez. After falling in the first set, 2-6, Woodard came back strong in the second, winning, 6-1. Woodard then edged Gutierrez, 7-5, in the third set to win the match.

Freshman Rasheeda McAdoo suffered a 6-3, 6-3, loss to #83 Katie Klyczek. It was the first time McAdoo faced a ranked opponent this fall. Senior Muriel Wacker also lost her singles match to Carolyn Chupa. Wacker won set won, 6-2. Chupa defeated Wacker, 7-6 (5), 6-2, in the next two sets to take the match.

The Yellow Jackets went 0-3 in doubles play against Vanderbilt. Prokhnevska and Wacker battled it out with Mira and Sellyn, but were eventually edged in the tie breaker, 8-7 (3). Ashleigh Antal and Sydney Campbell defeated #26 Woodard and Kurey, 8-4, while Anton-Ohlmeyer and McAdoo lost, 8-4, to Casares and Colton.

The final day of competition begins Sunday morning at 10 a.m. ET. The Yellow Jackets face Vanderbilt in singles and William and Mary in doubles.
