ATLANTA – Georgia Tech closed out the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championship by sweeping all four singles matches Sunday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
Despite being knocked out of the main draw early in the tournament, all four Yellow Jackets closed out the event with singles wins, including sophomore Kirsten Flower, who knocked off UCLA’s Elizabeth Lumpkin, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9). Whitney McCray also posted a three-set victory, defeating North Carolina’s Laura Reichert, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5, while Kristi Miller and Amanda McDowell recorded straight-set victories.
The Jackets will next be in action in one week, when junior Christy Striplin and freshmen Noelle Hickey, Maya Johansson and Sasha Krupina travel to California for another preseason tournament.
