Tech and Russell Extend Sponsorship Agreement Three Years

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Athletic Association has extended its sponsorship relationship with Russell Athletic, and the apparel maker will continue to be Tech’s official uniform and apparel supplier for three more years.

The new agreement, which was effective July 1, has a total value of more than $1 million over the life of the contract and includes product for all 17 Tech varsity sports, cash and performance incentives. Russell will continue to be the official uniform supplier for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball, and also will continue to provide all sideline apparel for the football team.

“Russell has been a great partner to our athletic program for a number of years,” said Tech director of athletics Dave Braine. “We’re very excited to continue our long-standing relationship with Russell and look forward to many more years in this partnership. We’re also happy to be able to craft an agreement which benefits all of our sports. Every one of our teams will receive something in this new deal.”

“Russell Athletic has enjoyed a long, productive relationship with Georgia Tech and it’s great that we’ve entered into this agreement that takes us through the 2002-2003 school year,” said Barney Wachtel, CEO of Russell Athletic, a division of the Russell Corporation. “Tech’s strong athletic tradition combined with its reputation for excellence in the classroom are exactly the balance and emphasis which match our corporate values. Having moved our headquarters to Atlanta makes this relationship even more special. Also, with our new City View office in Vining, we can work even more closely with the Athletic Association on merchandising and marketing programs.”

As part of the agreement, Tech will provide Russell with scoreboard advertisements in Bobby Dodd Stadium, Alexander Memorial Coliseum and Russ Chandler Stadium, with additional signage at its softball and track venues. Russell, which has been a corporate partner of the Athletic Association since 1992, will receive other promotional considerations, including tickets to athletic events and game program advertising.

Russell Athletic, a division of Russell Corporation (NYSE:RML), manufactures and markets activewear, casualwear and athletic uniforms through its Retail and Team Sports operations. For more information about Russell Athletic, visit www.russellathletic.com.
