Swimming & Diving Set To Host Western Kentucky Saturday On Parent's Weekend

Nov. 1, 2007

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s (1-2, 0-2 ACC) and women’s (3-3, 0-2) swimming and diving teams are set to host Western Kentucky on Parent’s Weekend Saturday at 2:00 PM. The Tech men are 3-9 all-time against Western Kentucky while the women’s squad has won its only previous meeting vs. the Hilltoppers. Fans unable to make it to the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center can follow the meet via live stats at www.ramblinwreck.com.

“On paper, Western Kentucky is very similar to us so it should be a great meet,” head coach Stu Wilson said. “I have challenged each player once again to step up from their past performances and continue to build momentum as the season progresses. Parent’s Weekend has always been a great event for us and we are so appreciative of their support.”

The meet will feature 13 events: 200-yard medley, 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, one-meter dive, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 500-yard freestyle, three-meter dive, 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The women’s team is coming off a 3-0 performance last weekend at a quad meet hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. The Yellow Jackets defeated Florida Atlantic, 182-118, Florida Gulf Coast University, 183-117, and the University of Tampa 233-54. Tech won 12 of the day’s 16 events led by sophomore Agatha Kwasnik and freshman Christine Chuang who had two individual wins apiece and were part of two more winning relay teams.

The men have not competed since going 1-2 at their opening weekend quad meet against Alabama, Clemson and Florida State. Noah Copeland scored a victory in the 200-yard men’s freestyle and swam a leg of Georgia Tech’s 400-yard freestyle relay to help the Yellow Jackets defeat Alabama, 162.00-138.00. Mickey Malul won the 100-yard breastroke in a close finish with a time of 55.94 seconds, less than a half-second ahead of FSU’s Billy Jamerson.

Both squads will host the University of Georgia on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 4:00 PM. Live stats will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com and fans can check back after the meet for complete results and a recap.
