Swim & Dive Heads to ACC Championships

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving teams are set to compete at the 2023 ACC Championships from Tuesday, Feb. 14 to Saturday, Feb. 18 in Greensboro, N.C. The meet will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The ACC Championships are set to begin on Tuesday with diving preliminaries and finals for two of the relay events.

Day-to-Day Schedule of Events:

Tuesday (Prelims at 10 a.m., Finals at 5:30 p.m.)
Women’s 3M Diving, Men’s 1M Diving, 200 Medley Relay, 800 Free Relay

Wednesday (Prelims at 9:30 a.m., Finals at 5:30 p.m.)
500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, Women’s 1M Diving, 200 Free Relay

Thursday (Prelims at 9:30 a.m., Finals at 5:30 p.m.)
400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, Men’s 3M Diving

Friday (Prelims at 9:30 a.m., Finals at 5:30 p.m.)
200 Fly, 100 Back, 100 Breast, Women’s Platform Diving

Saturday (Prelims at 9:30 a.m., Finals at 2:45 p.m. & 6 p.m.)
200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, Men’s Platform Diving, 1650 Free, 400 Free Relay

 

At the 2022 ACC Championships, Tech had several athletes achieve performances worthy of All-ACC recognition. Senior diver, Ruben Lechuga won silver in the men’s 1-meter event and sophomore, Mert Kilavuz, placed third in the men’s 1650 free.

The Yellow Jackets have had a successful season with multiple NCAA B Cut marks and an impressive amount of new school records. Multiple Jackets have swam times that rank in the Top 20 of the conference. Heading into the championships, the men’s team currently ranks at No. 21 on the most recent CSCAA Division I poll.

Mert Kilavuz – 1000 Free (8:59.11, 1st), 1650 Free (14:57.05, 5th)
Charles Perks – 1650 Free (15:20.09, 7th)
Berke Saka – 200 Back (1:40.02, 1st), 100 Back (45.60, 2nd), 50 Back (21.43, 5th), 200 IM (1:44.77, 7th)

Leandro Odorici – 100 Breast (52.78, 6th)
Daniel Kertesz – 100 Breast (53.41, 10th)

 

Heading into the championships, the men’s team currently ranks at No. 21 on the most recent CSCAA Division I poll. Four ACC programs are ranked nationally in both the men’s and women’s polls; No. 4/4 NC State, No. 12/22 Virginia Tech, No. 14/11 Louisville and No.15/1 Virginia. Florida State’s men’s team is ranked 18th and Notre Dame’s men’s team is ranked 20th. The women’s teams at North Carolina and Duke are ranked at No. 17 and No. 19 in the nation. Individually, the Jackets have recorded multiple performances that rank in the Top 20 in the NCAA.
