Stokes, Wongluekiet & Hodges Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Feb. 16, 2004

ATLANTA-Women’s basketball star Fallon Stokes, golf standout Chan Wongluekiet, and baseball newcomer Wes Hodges were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, February 16, 2004.

Stokes, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., helped Tech to a pair of victories over ACC opponents Virginia and Maryland on the week. She hit three free throws in the last 1:30 of the game against Virginia to guarantee the Jackets the victory over the Cavs while recording her fifth double-double of the year and eighth of her career by leading the Jackets with 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in the contest. In the game against Maryland, she hit a jump shot to pull Tech within on point of the Terps and then hit the game-winning shot with 58 seconds remaining in the contest. She ended the game with a team-high 18 points while recording six rebounds against the Terrapins. For the week, she averaged 16.5 points and eight rebounds per game.

Wongluekiet, a junior from Bradenton, Fla., helped Tech to a 3-stroke victory at the Taylor Made-Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Waikoloa Hawai’i. Individually, he finished tied for fifth at seven under par. His scores of 69, 71, and 69 gave him a score of 209 for the tournament. His finish was his first Top-10 finish of the season.

Hodges, a freshman from Ooltewah, Tenn., made his collegiate debut in grand style, helping the Yellow Jackets sweep a doubleheader from in-state rival, 15-6 and 5-4. In game one, Hodges went 2-for-4 with a Grand Slam as a part of Tech’s nine-run seventh inning outburst. In game two, the rookie went 1-for-5, but his one hit was a game-winning RBI single with two outs in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Yellow Jackets to a 5-4, 10-inning victory. For the weekend, Hodges went 3-for-10 with a double, home run, five RBI and three runs scored. He also played errorless defense in nine chances at third base.
