GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech volleyball senior Gabriela Stavnetchei was named to the 2017 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as announced by the league office on Friday morning. The Yellow Jackets’ were picked to finish ninth in the ACC preseason voting.
Stavnetchei, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Curitiba, Brazil, is a key returning member of Georgia Tech’s starting six. Stavnetchei played in all 32 matches with 30 starts during the 2016 season. She registered double-digit kills in 17 matches, including the last seven matches of the season. The senior posted eight double-doubles during the 2016 season.
The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish ninth in the ACC preseason voting. On the heels of its best season since 2004, Georgia Tech hopes to continue its upward trend. The Jackets posted a 24-8 record overall with a 15-5 mark in conference play. Continuing to prove O’Keefe Gymnasium as one of the hardest venues to play in, the Jackets held a 11-2 ledger at home during the 2016 season.
Heading into head coach Michelle Collier’s fourth season at the helm of the Georgia Tech volleyball program, Tech returns two starters in Stavnetchei and senior Sydney Wilson. Also returning are seniors Gabby Benda, Ashley Askin and sophomore Kodi Comby, all of whom saw considerable playing time during the 2016 season.
The Jackets kick off the 2017 season on Aug. 25 at O’Keefe against Auburn at 6 p.m. ET. Fans can get season tickets here.
