Practice notes: A few of the highlights from this morning’s scrimmage at Bobby Dodd Stadium…
… Sophomore quarterback Vad Lee ran for a pair of touchdowns, including one 60-yard TD run.
… Not to be outdone, redshirt freshman Justin Thomas rushed for a touchdown, set up by his own electrifying 40-yard run.
… Redshirt freshman Beau Hankins had a nice interception on a pass thrown by Thomas. … Senior Jeremiah Attaochu had a tackle for loss and Coray Carlson had a fumble recovery.
… The catch of the day actually belonged to walk-on Marty Alcala, who had an acrobatic reception on a 30-yard pass from Thomas.
… Matt Connors rushed for a 12-yard touchdown.
… Good news on the injury front: junior wide receiver Darren Waller was back in action.
Paul Johnson on the scrimmage: “Anytime you scrimmage there is going to be good and bad. There were some big plays. The defense did a nice job forcing some turnovers, but it was kind of sloppy.”
Position battle: It should be an interesting battle for kicking duties this fall with at least three – seniors Justin Moore and David Scully, and true freshman Harrison Butker. Moore had a solid scrimmage Saturday morning, booting field goals of 47 and 43 yards with no misses. Butker will not be on campus until August.
